Where did Sound Therapy originate and who can it help?
The Filtered and Gated Sound Therapy Method I used is based on the Tomatis method as described by Dr.Norman Doidge in his most recent book 'The brain's way of healing'.
Most people have heard of the ‘Mozart effect’ but few know that it is available here in Auckland.
Professor A.Tomatis was a French E.N.T. surgeon, who discovered that the music of Mozart has a profound impact on the brain.
We use the music of Mozart filtered and gated to treat children and adults. We see many children with learning difficulties such as ADD, ADHD, Auditory Processing Disorder, Low Muscle Tone, emotional difficulties, depression, Low Self- Esteem, Poor Language or Communication Skills, Dyslexia, Asperges syndrome and Autism. Each child receives an individual programme specially designed around his/her needs
We are also able to run language programmes, programmes for pregnant mothers and programmes for the more mature members of our community, who have had strokes, may have balance issues or hearing loss.
I follow the original Gold Standard of Sound Therapy the way it was first devised by Prof. Tomatis so many years ago. Here in the heart of Auckland you can experience the wonders of Sound therapy for yourself.
There are many Sound Therapy Centres worldwide, who no longer are referred to as Tomatis Centres, of which this Auckland centre is one. The Listening Centre belonging to Paul Madaule in Toronto is another.
The filtered sound therapy is an excellent way to assist the brain to rewire areas that are not functioning at optimum. It assists with increasing the processing speed and memory retention.
Sound Therapy prepares the brain for learning.

Pregnancy and Sound therapy.
We believe prevention is better than cure. There are many studies to suggest that if a pregnant mom takes fish oils while pregnant her child will be cleverer. Well the sound therapy has a similar affect. The baby’s ear is fully developed by 16 weeks and hence the baby's brain development relies largely on stimulation from sound. Especially, the sound of the mother’s voice, this plays a vital role in baby’s development. All the sounds in Utero are low frequency sounds, the mothers breathing, her heartbeat and digestion all make up the sound environment that the baby is exposed to. The Mother's voice is a high frequency sound and reaches the baby via the spinal cord and because the sound is so different to all the other visceral sounds, the baby pays attention to the Mother's voice. The act of paying attention is the key to the brain development. Not only does the ear stimulate the brain but the vagus nerve goes from the ear to all the organs in the body, therefore the sound also stimulates all the organs.
Tomatis said that the ear was the battery for the brain, and believed that via the ear one could re charge the brain.
The pregnancy programme and premature baby development are areas that have always been close to my heart.
I did the Sound therapy which is based on the Tomatis method with both my children and have had many women through my centre for this programme. All of whom can testify to having felt a huge benefit from it. The benefit of working with the Sound Therapy programme at this vitally important period of the development of the fetus is immeasurable. This is a time when one can influence the future development of the child's language development and emotional well being. Bruce Lipton, along with many others today, speak about the intra-uterine time as being crucial in genetic blueprinting for many aspects of a child's life.
